Jacob Taylor has joined OVRDC as the Transportation Planning Specialist. Jacob previously worked for OVRDC and the Scioto County Engineer’s Office and his previous experience with data collection, Geographic Information System (GIS) software and project documentation and research will be valuable skills to enhance the economic and community development work of the planning commission. His interest in working at OVDC comes from multiple areas.
“I was particularly interested in working more in transportation and seeing the network of infrastructure in our area improve. I was happy to come and work with the staff here at OVRDC and knew that it would be a great work environment. It’s also worth mentioning that I grew up here and want to see the area do well and working with OVRDC is my opportunity to contribute my skills to that goal,” said Jacob.
Jacob has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history and has gained a lot of technical experience when working in digital history to fulfill educational program requirements. He has also continued training extensively on GIS software.
“My previous experience was in the Engineer’s Office, so I think that’s extremely relevant to my current work. It’s great to be back and in a new role! I need to remember that I have been gone for a few years sometimes and that things are different now, even though a lot of it feels familiar. It’s good to take on some greater responsibilities at this point and I look forward to it,” said Jacob.
Jacob is a native of Scioto County, and in his free time he coaches a high school swim team and volunteers with the Scioto County Heritage Museum. He is helping the fledgling history museum get organized and established in the community, because Jacob says there are a lot of great history stories in our area.
Jacob says his favorite dessert is “a good sugar cookie,” but he says since it’s fall it’s pie season and when it’s time for his birthday dessert we know he will make the right call. Contact Jacob at jtaylor@ovrdc.org.
