Every year, over $100 million is invested into the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for engineering improvements at high-crash and severe-crash locations in Ohio. The Ohio Department of Transportation accepts the HSIP applications twice a year. The deadlines are April 30 and September 30.
Local applicants are required to submit applications to their ODOT District Offices for review before the qualified applications are submitted to ODOT Central Office. Typically, applicants/project sponsors should start to coordinate with the local District Office at lease eight weeks in advance of the application deadlines.
County Engineers, local public officials or community development offices are strongly encouraged to contact their local ODOT District Offices to prepare for required safety studies and related application items.
